MEMORIALIZING FORMER SENATOR FRANK WEDDIG. WHEREAS, Our respected former colleague, Franklin Otto "Frank" Weddig, a past member of the Colorado Senate and the Colorado House of Representatives, departed this life on October 26, 2012, at the age of 67; and WHEREAS, Senator Weddig was born November 1, 1944, in West Bend, Wisconsin; and WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Senator Weddig joined the United States Air Force at the age of 17, and worked on B-47 bombers in Kansas, Alaska, and Idaho before being honorably discharged in 1966; and WHEREAS, Senator Weddig married Patricia May Ineck in 1966, and in 1971 they moved their family to Colorado; and WHEREAS, Senator Weddig completed an apprenticeship program for commercial electricians and joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and worked as an electrician for thirty-five years; and WHEREAS, In 1977, Senator Weddig was appointed to the Aurora Planning Commission, and he was elected to the Aurora City Council in 1981, serving as a council member until 1993; and WHEREAS, Senator Wedding was appointed to the Colorado State Senate in 1995 and served in the Senate for six years, from 1995 to 2000, representing Arapahoe County and the city of Aurora for Senate District 29, and was the first legislator to be term-limited due to the newly passed limits; and WHEREAS, After being term-limited in the Senate, Senator Weddig was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives, where he served for four years, from 2001 to 2004, representing House District 43 and then House District 36 for Arapahoe County and the city of Aurora; and WHEREAS, Senator Wedding served on the Local Government Committee and the State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee during his tenure in both the House and Senate, and he also served one year on the Senate Health, Environment, Welfare, and Institutions Committee and on the interim committee for the State Capitol Centennial Celebration in 1995; and WHEREAS, In November 2004, Senator Weddig was elected to the Arapahoe Board of County Commissioners, where he served as a commissioner until his retirement in 2012; and WHEREAS, Senator Weddig served his community in many capacities, including as a member of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Developmental Pathways Board of Directors, E-470 Public Highway Authority Board, National Association of Counties Labor and Employment Steering Committee, and as Treasurer of Colorado Counties, Inc.; and WHEREAS, Senator Weddig is remembered as being gregarious, cordial, and passionate about serving his community; and WHEREAS, It is fitting that we, the members of the Sixty-ninth General Assembly, pay tribute to the dedicated service of Senator Frank Weddig and express our deep regret and sorrow occasioned by his death; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Sixty-ninth General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the House of Representatives concurring herein: That, in the death of Franklin Otto Weddig, the people of the state of Colorado have lost a dedicated public servant and outstanding citizen, and that we, the members of the Sixty-ninth General Assembly, do hereby extend our deep and heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family and pay tribute to a man who served his state well and faithfully. Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Joint Memorial be sent to Senator Weddig's wife, Patricia Weddig, his daughters, Frances Thomson, Pamela Williams, and Patrice Thoresen, the Board of County Commissioners for Arapahoe County, the Aurora City Council, United States Representatives Mike Coffman and Ed Perlmutter, United States Senators Michael Bennet and Mark Udall, and Governor John Hickenlooper. ____________________________ ____________________________ John P.
