Senator Gibbs, prime sponsor, presented House Bill 09-1027, concerning the duty of drivers to yield the right-of-way to transit buses entering traffic. He spoke of circumstances in which a driver must yield the right-of-way to a bus driver under House Bill 09-1027.

The following persons testified in regard to House Bill 09-1027:

Harry Taylor, representing the Colorado Association of State Transit Agencies, supported House Bill 09-1027. He commented on transit buses that use shoulders to drop off passengers and spoke of safety improvements that will result from House Bill 09-1027. He said that failure to yield is a particular problem for buses in roundabouts.

George Krauzoff, representing the Colorado Transportation Commission, supported House Bill 09-1027. He said that the bill will increase the efficiency of transit service in Colorado.

Lee Kemp, Chairman, Regional Transportation District (RTD), Board of Directors, said that the board supports House Bill 09-1027 and that the bill will improve safety, and increase the efficiency of RTD's transit services.

Ann Rajewski, representing the Colorado Association of State Transit Agencies, commented on the obligation of drivers to yield to transit buses.
