03:30 PM -- Confirmation of Appointee to the Colorado State University Board of Governors

Joseph Zimlich, appointee to the Board of Governors of Colorado State University, came to the table. The Governor's letter appointing Mr. Zimlich to the board of governors is contained in Attachment A. His application and resume may be viewed at the State Archives. Mr. Zimlich introduced himself and told the committee about his background as an accountant and auditor. He also described his involvement with the university and higher education.

Mr. Zimlich responded to questions from the committee. Senator Bacon asked Mr. Zimlich to explain why he would like to serve on the board of governors in the these trying times. Mr. Zimlich responded, saying he wants to bring his experiences to work with the other members of the board of governors, the faculty, and the students.

Senator King asked Mr. Zimlich to comment on issues related to the political persuasion of faculty at the university. Mr. Zimlich said it is important in the university environment to have all views represented.

Senator Romer thanked Mr. Zimlich for his service, and commented on the role of the university in its research. Senator Romer said he hopes the board of governors will continue its focus on research and tech transfer. Mr. Zimlich responded, saying he intends to focus on these areas. Mr. Zimlich talked about current research endeavors at the university.

Committee questions for the appointee continued. Senator Heath commented on a bill he is sponsoring related to tech transfer. He also commented that he is pleased to see that Mr. Zimlich is from Fort Collins.

Senator Bacon commented as well, saying that he appreciates a Fort Collins voice on the governing board. He commented on legislation regarding the higher education investment authority.

Senator Spence thanked Mr. Zimlich for his interest in serving on the governing board. She asked him to talk about Colorado State University's Global Leadership Council. Mr. Zimlich responded, providing information about the council and its work.
