10:05 AM -- Funding for Obama Portrait and Clinton Portrait

Representative Weissmann reported that he hopes the Colorado Council on the Arts will work as an intermediary to help the committee obtain a portrait of President Obama, as well as a replacement portrait of President Clinton, which is currently on loan to the Capitol through March 31, 2010. Representative Weissmann said he does not foresee any difficulties in raising money for the portraits. Ms. Contiguglia noted that any new portrait would need to fit in with the current collection in size, framing, format, and style. Ms. Contiguglia noted that the Colorado Council on the Arts could issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) after the money has been raised. Committee discussion on this issue ensued, with Representative Weissmann noting that $5,000 is an initial goal for fundraising. Ms. Thomsen clarified that presidential portraits are exempt from the committee's art donation guidelines.
