CONCERNING DECLARATION OF THE WEEK OF MAY 2, 1999, THROUGH  MAY 8, 1999, TO BE CORRECTIONAL EMPLOYEES APPRECIATION WEEK.


WHEREAS, The General Assembly recognizes the importance of corrections in the criminal justice system and the magnitude of the contributions made by correctional employees in the State of Colorado; and

WHEREAS, Correctional employees are the primary agents for promoting health, welfare, security, and safety within correctional facilities and in parole and community supervision programs; and

WHEREAS, Correctional employees directly interact with convicted and adjudicated offenders and are the essential catalysts of positive change in the correctional process; and

WHEREAS, Correctional employees help inmates and parolees develop the skills necessary to become productive members of society, a service that is sometimes dangerous and frustrating; and

WHEREAS, Correctional employees risk their lives daily to protect the citizens of Colorado from persons incarcerated for committing crimes against society; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Sixty­second General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the House of Representatives concurring herein:

That the General Assembly of the State of Colorado hereby declares the week of May 2, 1999, through May 8, 1999, Correctional Employees Appreciation Week in Colorado, in recognition of the efforts of correctional employees in the protection of society and in respect for their professionalism, vigilance, and courage in the line of duty, and that the General Assembly calls upon Colorado's citizens to recognize and participate in the observance of this worthy occasion.

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be sent to each correctional facility and to each parole, community supervision, and administrative office of the Department of Corrections in the state of Colorado and that the copy be displayed in an appropriate location in each facility or office.
