CONCERNING THE RECOGNITION OF THE JOY OF MUSIC MARATHON.

WHEREAS, The Joy of Music Marathon will be held Friday, February 26, through Sunday, February 28, 1999; and

WHEREAS, The Joy of Music Marathon will present forty­eight continuous hours of live entertainment to raise funds for Songs Across the Seas; and

WHEREAS, The Joy of Music Marathon will make Colorado citizens more aware of the music education needs of children, our many resources for filling them, the great diversity of musical expression, the role of the performing arts in initiating and galvanizing community effort, and the many talented and caring performing artists in Colorado; and

WHEREAS, The Joy of Music Marathon will also provide the opportunity for community interaction, a venue for Colorado and international performing artists, a means for performing artists around the world to connect with each other to help children, and a forum for diversity in the performing arts; and

WHEREAS, The Governor and Mrs. Owens are especially committed to helping children both in Colorado and around the world; and

WHEREAS, The Joy of Music Marathon is unique in its approach to raising the awareness of and funds for many worthwhile children's programs; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Sixty­second General Assembly of the State of Colorado:

That, Friday, February 26, through Sunday, February 28, 1999, the days of the Joy of Music Marathon, be dedicated toward achieving awareness of the music education needs of all children.
