HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 991010
CONGRATULATING THE DENVER BRONCOS IN THE ACHIEVEMENT
OF THEIR SECOND CONSECUTIVE SUPER BOWL VICTORY AND EXTENDING CONGRATULATIONS
THEREFOR.
WHEREAS, The Denver Broncos completed the regular
season with a record of fourteen wins and two losses to qualify
for the playoffs; and
WHEREAS, The Broncos avenged their regular season
loss to the Miami Dolphins in the AFC Divisional Playoffs; and
WHEREAS, The Broncos overcame turbulent winds to
ground Vinny and the Jets by a score of 2310 to become AFC
Champions; and
WHEREAS, General Elway marched his troops down the
battlefield to once again destroy Atlanta; and
WHEREAS, The Broncos, riding high on their AFC victory
over the Jets, clipped the Falcons' wings by a score of 3419
in Super Bowl XXXIII; and
WHEREAS, The Broncos have won more games (46) in
three seasons than any other team in NFL history and as many games
in one year (17) as any team; and
WHEREAS, The Broncos became the first team to win
consecutive Super Bowls since the Dallas Cowboys in 199293
and, by repeating their championship status, established the AFC's
first dynasty in 20 years; and
WHEREAS, Future hall of famer, John Elway, voted
unanimously the Most Valuable Player in the Super Bowl, completed
18 of 29 passes for 336 yards, threw for one touchdown of 80 yards
that was the secondlongest scoring pass in Super Bowl history,
and ran for another on a quarterback draw; and
WHEREAS, Terrell Davis, Most Valuable Player from
last year's Super Bowl rushed for 2008 yards this year
and set an NFL record by breaking
the century mark for the seventh consecutive postseason game,
gaining 102 yards on 25 carries; and
WHEREAS, Mike Shanahan joins the prestigious ranks
of Vince Lombardi, Don Shula, Chuck Noll, and Jimmy Johnson as
coaches who have won two Super Bowls; and
WHEREAS, The Falcons' flight to victory was shot
down by the stampeding Broncos under the reins of Mike Shanahan;
and
WHEREAS, The Falcons were unable to saddle the bucking
Broncos' offense causing Falcons quarterback Chris Chandler to
throw three interceptions thus losing the critical turnover battle;
and
WHEREAS, By the fourth quarter, Atlanta realized
their chance to win a Super Bowl was "Gone With the Wind";
and
WHEREAS, The frustration of missed field goals, interceptions
and blown chances caused Atlanta to ask "Where should we
go? What should we do?" to which the Broncos replied "Frankly
Falcons, we don't give a darn"; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives
of the Sixtysecond General Assembly of the State of Colorado,
the Senate concurring herein:
That we, the members of the General Assembly send
a "Mile High Salute" and our congratulations to the
players, coaches, and fans of the Denver Broncos in bringing Colorado
its second consecutive Super Bowl Trophy a true "Rocky
Mountain High". You did it again! You did it with style.
You made us proud! The Broncos reign!
Be it further resolved,
That copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Denver Broncos
and such other persons as members of the House of Representatives
may request.
