Summary of Legislation
The bill would require prior approval of a Board of County Commissioners before a person could release destructive rodent pests in a county. Any person caught violating the law would be responsible for the removal of the rodents or the county may impose a fine equal to the cost of removing the rodents.
Local Government Impact
The bill allows county commissioners to require a person responsible for releasing destructive rodents into the county to remove the rodents or impose a fine to cover the costs of removing the rodents. Should a board of county commissioners impose a fine, the county would receive additional fine revenue to offset the costs of removing the rodents. Since the fiscal impact of the bill is dependent upon rodents being illegally released in a county, the county knowing who released the rodents, and the county imposing a fine, this bill is assessed as having a conditional fiscal impact to counties. The number of times a fine would be levied and the amount of revenue generated is estimate to be minimal.
