TITLE: CONCERNING TRAFFIC REGULATIONS RELATING TO BICYCLES.
Summary of Assessment
The bill would allow bicyclist to use a right arm extended horizontally as hand signal for a right turn in addition to the current left arm turned up at 90 degrees. The requirement that a cyclist dismount at a roadway crossing would be deleted and bicyclist would be subject to local ordinances for crossing at a roadway. Motor vehicle drivers would be required to allow at least three feet between a cyclist and the vehicle when passing the cyclist. The bill would become effective July 1, 1999.
The provisions of this bill would not change the number of citations that are estimated to be issued under current law. The bill would not increase or decrease revenues, expenditures, or workloads for any state or local government. Therefore, this bill is assessed as having no fiscal impact.
