TITLE:            CONCERNING THE "UNIFORM CHILD-CUSTODY JURISDICTION AND ENFORCEMENT ACT".

Summary of Assessment

The bill repeals the "Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction Act" and enacts the "Uniform Child-custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act" based upon the official text of the "Uniform Child-custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act (1997)" issued by the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws. The bill is effective July 1, 1999, and shall apply to causes of action filed on or after such date.

The bill includes a number of provisions relative to child custody, none of which create either a state or local fiscal impact. The Judicial Branch indicates that although the proposed act includes modifications to the current "Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction Act", procedures and processes are in place to comply with the "Uniform Child-custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act" as proposed in the bill. The Judicial Branch will require no additional appropriations.
