TITLE:            CONCERNING ELECTION OF SCHOOL DISTRICT DIRECTORS.

Summary of Assessment

This bill makes several changes to statutes affecting the election of school district directors. The bill specifies that 25 signatures must be collected on petitions for nominating school district directors in school districts with fewer than 1,000 students and 50 signatures must be collected in school districts with 1,000 or more students.

The bill removes outdated language from current law concerning election of school district directors, and allows a school district to propose a change in the number of district directors. Additionally, the bill provides conforming language for existing school districts to language found in Section 22-30-122, C.R.S., which governs the election of school directors in new school districts as part of the "School District Organization Act. of 1992."

The bill does not affect the revenues or expenditures of the state or local school districts, and is therefore assessed as having no fiscal impact. The bill would become effective upon signature of the Governor.
