TITLE:            CONCERNING ELECTIONS FOR MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF SCHOOL DISTRICT 1.

Summary of Assessment

            The bill makes changes to representation and develops a new elections schedule for School District 1 — the City and County of Denver. These changes include:

               at-large members of the Denver School Board will no longer be elected, effective 2003;

               members elected in 2001 shall serve two-year terms;

               the General Assembly shall establish the boundaries for seven single-member districts following the federal census in 2000; and

               members elected in 2003 and 2011 shall serve set terms.

            The bill is assessed as having no state or local fiscal impact. New elections are not mandated, rather, the election schedule and terms of school board members are modified. The bill is effective upon signature of the Governor.
