TITLE:            CONCERNING VACANCIES ON THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION.

Summary of Assessment

            The bill provides that if a vacancy occurs on the State Board of Education at any time within the period that begins 30 days prior to a General Election and ends the second Tuesday of January when newly elected members of the State Board of Education take office, the vacancy shall be filled by those members of the Board who are newly elected or who are continuing in office on that second Tuesday of January. The bill is effective upon signature of the Governor.

            The bill is assessed as having no fiscal impact; it places no added responsibilities on the state Department of Education or local school districts.
