Summary of Legislation
The bill would specifically grant governmental immunity to state and local governments for failure of government computers to account for the year 2000 (Y2K).
State and Local Government Expenditures
To the extent that the current governmental liability statutes do not provide governmental immunity for government computer Y2K failure, this bill would grant immunity and thereby reduce potential liability. The amount of potential liability the state holds for computer Y2K failure has not been estimated. Therefore, this bill is assessed as having a conditional fiscal impact and a potential savings to all funds by reducing the potential liability for Y2K problems.
