TITLE:            CONCERNING VOLUNTARY DISMISSAL OF CERTAIN PERSONS FROM JURY SERVICE BASED ON AGE.

Summary of Assessment

The bill requires a juror who is 70 years of age or older to be excused from jury service upon the juror's request at any stage prior to impaneling the jury. The bill will become effective August 4, 1999, unless a referendum petition is filed.

The bill does not change the composition of the jury or reduce the pool from which jurors are selected to serve on a jury. It simply adds an age component, anyone over 70 years, to the list of deferments, excuses, and limitations of jury duty, per Section 13-71-119, C.R.S. Therefore, the bill is assessed as having no fiscal impact on state revenues or expenditures, or on units of local government.
