SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 98-029
CONCERNING THE RENOVATION OF THE STATE CAPITOL BUILDING.
WHEREAS, The Colorado state capitol building is the
most important historic public building in our state; and
WHEREAS, The state capitol building and its contents
are irreplaceable historic assets; and
WHEREAS, Several studies of the state capitol building
have documented that the building has serious life safety deficiencies
and that visitors to and occupants of the building are at great
risk in the event of a fire; and
WHEREAS, The state capitol building's aged infrastructure
have deteriorated to a level that now requires total restoration
and renovation to ensure its survival and use as a working capitol
in the future; and
WHEREAS, The state capitol building advisory committee
has studied the life safety and systems upgrades needed for the
state capitol building and has gathered input from a wide variety
of persons; and
WHEREAS, The state capitol building advisory committee
recommends that the state capitol building be renovated and restored;
and
WHEREAS, The state capitol building advisory committee
has developed and presented its recommendations concerning renovation
of the state capitol building to the capital development committee;
and
WHEREAS, The capital development committee has reviewed
such recommendations and believes that the recommendations present
a solid framework for addressing the renovation and restoration
of the state capitol building; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Sixtyfirst
General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the House of Representatives
concurring herein:
(1) That the general assembly endorses
the recommendations of the state capitol building advisory committee
as contained in the committee's report to the capital development
committee dated January 30, 1998.
(2) That any legislation enacted in the
future to implement a renovation and restoration project of the
state capitol building should be consistent with the recommendations
contained in such report.
Amendment No. 1, by Senator Wham Amend printed resolution, page 2, line 2, strike "endorses" and substitute "recognizes"; line 7, strike "be" and substitute "take into consideration"; line 8 strike " consistent with".
