SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 98-017
CONCERNING CONGRATULATING THE AURORA HINKLEY HIGH
SCHOOL BASKETBALL TEAM ON THEIR STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WIN.
WHEREAS, Following in the footsteps of their football
team, the topranked Aurora Hinkley High School boys basketball
team claimed the title in the class 4A state finals; and
WHEREAS, Their 9160 victory over the 4th-ranked
Windsor Wizards gave the Thunderbirds their 20th straight win
and 24th victory of the season and avenged their semifinal
losses the previous two years; and
WHEREAS, Starters Aldean Thompson, Brandon Daum,
Albert Powell, and Tim Graham scored an impressive 26, 23, 14,
and 10 points respectively to lead the team to victory; and
WHEREAS, Four Hinkley players, Brandon Daum, Albert
Powell, Aldean Thompson, and Tim Graham were named alltournament
and allstate athletes; and
WHEREAS, Brandon Daum was named tournament MVP; and
WHEREAS, Aldean Thompson was named Mr. Colorado 4A
Basketball; and
WHEREAS, The Thunderbirds were led to victory by
coach Dan Jarvis, who also led Hinkley to a championship in 1994;
and
WHEREAS, All five starters on the team maintain a
3.5 grade point average while leading the championship team; and
WHEREAS, The accomplishments of the Hinkley Thunderbirds
basketball team during the 1998 season are an inspiration to us
all; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Sixtyfirst
General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the House of Representatives
concurring herein:
That we, the members of the General Assembly, extend
our congratulations to the players and staff who comprise the
Hinkley Thunderbirds basketball team for the success in the 1998
season.
Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to Dan Jarvis, head coach of the Hinkley Thunderbirds basketball team, Mike Nachazel, principal of Hinkley High School, and Joanie Warden, athletic director of Hinkley High School.
