SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 98-015

CONCERNING THE PROMISE KEEPERS ORGANIZATION.

WHEREAS, The Promise Keepers organization was founded on March 20, 1990, by Bill McCartney, former head football coach at the University of Colorado, with the concept of filling a stadium with Christian men; and

WHEREAS, Promise Keepers is a ministry dedicated to Christian outreach in uniting men of all races, ages, denominations, and socio­economic groups, to lead godly lives and become promise keepers in their commitment to God, their families, and each other; and

WHEREAS, Seventy­two men participated in the first Promise Keepers gathering in 1990 and the first Promise Keepers stadium conference was held in 1991 at the University of Colorado, and since then, more than two million men have attended Promise Keepers stadium conferences nationwide; and

WHEREAS, Promise Keepers fosters its ministry through many different forums: Educational conferences and seminars; local small groups; community projects; support for local churches and the clergy; and resource materials; and

WHEREAS, Promise Keepers operates locally with thirty­six regional offices to serve all fifty states and operates independently in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Sixty­first General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the House of Representatives concurring herein:

That the General Assembly supports the Promise Keepers organization in its ministry of uniting men of all races and denominations to strengthen their Christian relationships in their commitment to God, their families, local churches and communities, and each other.
