SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 98-008
CONCERNING THE EXTENSION OF CONGRATULATIONS FROM
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY RAMS FOOTBALL
TEAM.
WHEREAS, The Colorado State University Rams football
team recently concluded its most successful football season in
school history; and
WHEREAS, The Colorado State University Rams finished
their 1997 football season with a notable 112 record, the
most wins in school history; and
WHEREAS, The Colorado State University Rams football
team overcame adversity, winning the last nine games of the season,
which represents the third longest winning streak in school history;
and
WHEREAS, The Colorado State University Rams football
team finished its football season ranked sixteenth in the USA
Today/ESPN college football poll and seventeenth in the Associated
Press college football poll; and
WHEREAS, The Colorado State University Rams football
team defeated the University of New Mexico by a score of 4113
to win the Western Athletic Conference Championship; and
WHEREAS, The Colorado State University Rams football
team was invited for the third time in four years to play in the
twentieth annual Plymouth Holiday Bowl; and
WHEREAS, The Colorado State University Rams exhibited
outstanding teamwork in the Plymouth Holiday Bowl by defeating
nineteenthranked University of Missouri by a score of 3524;
and
WHEREAS, The Colorado State University Rams were
led during this victorious season by head coach Sonny Lubick who
was selected Western Athletic Conference Pacific Coach of the
Year; and
WHEREAS, Under the guidance of Sonny Lubick, the
Colorado State University Rams football team has produced two
AllAmericans, eighteen allWestern Athletic Conference
players, two Academic AllAmericans, and twentyseven
Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week winners; and
WHEREAS, Senior quarterback Moses Moreno was selected
as Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year and shared coMost
Valuable Player honors with Darren Hall in the Plymouth Holiday
Bowl; and
WHEREAS, Colorado State University not only symbolizes
excellence in athletics, but also excellence in higher education
providing educational services to the citizens of Colorado since
1870 and currently serving approximately 22,000 students, seventyseven
percent of whom are residents of Colorado; and
WHEREAS, The Colorado State University Rams football
team displayed teamwork, courage, and skill during their 1997
season and enabled the people of Colorado to enjoy this inspirational
and memorable football season; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Sixtyfirst
General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the House of Representatives
concurring herein:
That we, the members of the General Assembly, extend
our congratulations to the players and staff who comprise the
Colorado State University Rams football team for their success
in the 1997 football season and offer our thanks for the inspiration
they have given to all citizens of Colorado.
Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to Sonny Lubick, Head Coach of the Colorado State University Rams football team; to Albert Yates, President of Colorado State University; to the chief executive officer of the Colorado State University alumni association; to the Chairman of the State Board of Agriculture; and to the President of the Associated Students of Colorado State University.
