INTRODUCTION AND CONSIDERATION OF RESOLUTION

The following resolution was read at length and given immediate consideration:

HR98-1005 by Representatives Gotlieb and Grampsas--Congratulating the Denver Broncos and their Super Bowl Victory.

WHEREAS, The Denver Broncos completed the regular season with a record of twelve wins and four losses to qualify as a wildcard playoff team; and

WHEREAS, In their first playoff game, the Broncos avenged last year's loss to Jacksonville by declawing the Jaguars 4217 at Mile High Stadium; and

WHEREAS, The Broncos did what no other team in the NFL had done this season by defeating the Chiefs in Kansas City to advance to the AFC Championship game; and

WHEREAS, The Broncos overcame the Steelers and a hostile crowd in Pittsburgh to become AFC Champions; and

WHEREAS, The Broncos faced the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XXXII on Sunday, January 25, 1998, in San Diego, California, as 12point underdogs; and

WHEREAS, The Broncos and Packers played what probably will go down in the records of NFL history as one of the most thrilling Super Bowls ever, with the Broncos upsetting the Packers 3124; and

WHEREAS, Super Bowl Most Valuable Player, Terrell Davis, set records for the most rushing touchdowns and the most points scored by one player in a Super Bowl; and

WHEREAS, The Broncos' future Hall of Fame Quarterback, John Elway, rushed for a touchdown himself to set the Super Bowl record as the oldest player to score a touchdown and helped the Broncos set the Super Bowl record for the most rushing touchdowns; and

WHEREAS, Quarterback John Elway, Super Bowl MVP Terrell Davis, Broncos coach Mike Shanahan, the Broncos' dominating offensive line and surging defense, against the odds, brought Colorado its first Super Bowl championship and became only the second wildcard team in history to win the Super Bowl by upsetting the heavily favored Green Bay Packers; and

WHEREAS, The Broncos' victory makes them the first AFC team in 13 years to be World Champions; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Sixtyfirst General Assembly of the State of Colorado:

That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the Colorado General Assembly, return a "Mile High Salute" and extend our congratulations to the players, coaches, and fans of the Denver Broncos in bringing Colorado its first Super Bowl Trophy! You did it. You did it with style. You made us proud!

Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Denver Broncos and such other persons as members of the House of Representatives may request.

On motion of Representative Gotlieb, the rules were suspended and the resolution given immediate consideration and adopted by the following roll call vote:
