TITLE:            CONCERNING QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE OFFICE OF SCHOOL DISTRICT DIRECTOR, AND, IN CONNECTION THEREWITH, PROHIBITING ANY PERSON CONVICTED OF OR UNDER A PENDING CHARGE OF COMMISSION OF A SEX OFFENSE AGAINST A CHILD FROM SERVING ON A SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION.



Summary of Assessment


            This bill would make any person who has been convicted of, pled guilty or nolo contendere to, or received a deferred judgment or sentence for commission of a sexual offense against a child ineligible for the office of school director of a school district in the state. If a person becomes ineligible while serving as a school director, a vacancy for the position shall be deemed to exist. In addition, any individual who has an unresolved charge of commission of a sexual offense against a child pending at the time of election shall not be eligible for the office of school director of a school district.


            The bill would not affect the revenues or expenditures of the state or of local school districts. Therefore, the bill is assessed as having no fiscal impact. The bill would become effective upon signature of the Governor.
