Summary of Legislation
The bill, as amended in the House on Second Reading, April 22, 1998 would allow the General Assembly to increase the compensation level for Supreme Court Justices, Court of Appeals Judges, and District Court Judges each fiscal year as set forth in the annual general appropriations bill. The bill would also increase the compensation level of certain County Court Judges, County Court Judges in Class C and D counties, as well as special associate, associate, and assistant county judges. This increase in compensation shall be determined by the General Assembly as set forth in the annual general appropriations bill for the fiscal year commencing on July 1, 1999 and each fiscal year thereafter.
The bill is assessed as having a conditional fiscal impact on General Fund expenditures. The fiscal impact is conditional in that the compensation level is to be determined by the General Assembly for each fiscal year.
