TITLE:            CONCERNING ADJUSTMENT OF THE FEE FOR THE PHYSICIANS’ AND PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS’ PEER HEALTH ASSISTANCE PROGRAM.

Summary of Assessment

The provisions of this bill would increase the fee from $28 to $50 that is assessed physicians and physician assistants for the peer health assistance program. The bill also would authorize the State Board of Medical Examiners, Division of Registrations, Department of Regulatory Agencies, beginning on January 1, 2000, to adjust annually the amount of the fee to reflect changes in the consumer price index. The bill would become effective upon signature of the Governor.

Peer assistance funds are not appropriated funds. The peer assistance funds are deposited directly to the bank account of an administering entity for disbursement to providers who contract with the board to provide peer assistance. The provisions would not affect the revenues or expenditures of the state, or any unit of local government. Therefore, this bill is assessed as having no fiscal impact.
