TITLE: CONCERNING ELECTRONIC ACCESS TO PUBLIC INFORMATION MAINTAINED BY THE SECRETARY OF STATE.

Summary of Assessment

The Secretary of State (SOS) would be required to provide Internet access or other on-line access to public information covered by the Colorado Sunshine Act of 1972. The SOS would be able to set rates to offset the costs of accessing the data. The bill would become effective upon the Governor’s signature.

The SOS is currently working with other state agencies to develop access to the public information listed in this bill via the Internet. The SOS currently has the authority to set rates to recover the costs of providing public information. Therefore, this bill is assessed as having no fiscal impact.
