TITLE:            CONCERNING REPORTING BY MOTOR VEHICLE OWNERS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE REGISTRATION OF SUCH VEHICLES IN THE AIR PROGRAM AREA.

Summary of Assessment

The bill would require motor vehicle owners in the AIR program area to report the type of fuel used at the time the vehicle is registered. Fleet vehicle owners would have to report the vehicle as a fleet vehicle and the tax identification number at the time of registration. The bill would become effective July 1, 1998.

The Department of Revenue would not require additional resources to collect the information requested by this bill. The computer programs would be written during the department’s annual review and rewrite of computer programs. County clerks offices would spend some additional time to collect this information for each vehicle registration. However, the amount of time required would not require additional FTE. The time to register a vehicle would increase minimally. Therefore, this bill is assessed as having no fiscal impact.
