HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 97-1023


WHEREAS, Parents must invest unlimited time, energy, and devotion when raising their children in order to provide them with the love, support, and guidance required to become responsible, productive, and successful adults; and

WHEREAS, The responsibility of raising children in today's society is particularly difficult when it falls on the shoulders of a single parent; and

WHEREAS, Every day single parents bear the tremendous responsibilities of breadwinning and nurturing alone; and

WHEREAS, The number of single parent families has more than doubled in the past twenty­five years; and

WHEREAS, Over sixteen million children in this country currently live in single parent homes; and

WHEREAS, The greatest need of all children is to be loved whether they live in a single­parent or two­parent family; and

WHEREAS, The achievements of single parents are deserving of our recognition; and

WHEREAS, The United States Congress has established March 21 as "Single Parents Day"; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Sixty­first General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the Senate concurring herein:

That the General Assembly designate March 21, 1997, as "Single Parents Day" in Colorado in recognition of the dedication of all parents who have the difficult task of raising their children alone.
