HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 97-1021


WHEREAS, Gunnison High School's football team suffered the most devastating of tragedies when, on Monarch Pass, September 11, 1971, a school bus accident resulted in the death of eight students and one coach and led to the serious injury and maiming of many of the survivors; and

WHEREAS, There have been other accidents in our state involving school buses and other types of buses that have taken the lives of residents and visitors to Colorado; and

WHEREAS, Elected officials, as well as the entire population of Colorado, want a reminder of the importance of bus safety and the ultimate price that was paid by our young people; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Sixty­first General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the Senate concurring herein:

That the General Assembly does now designate September 11 of each year as "Colorado Bus Safety Day".
