STATE OF COLORADO

also SENATOR J. Johnson.
HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 97-1014
WHEREAS, Jim Nicholson, an Englewood businessman,
was recently elected chairman of the Republican National Committee;
and
WHEREAS, Governor Roy Romer was recently elected
general chairman of the Democratic National Committee; and
WHEREAS, For the first time in history, two Coloradans
will simultaneously lead the nation's two largest and oldest political
parties; and
WHEREAS, Both of these political parties play significant roles in the political and economic lives of the citizens of Colorado, with the Republican party currently having 843,815 registered voters in Colorado and the Democratic party currently having 737,227 registered voters in Colorado; and
WHEREAS, The state of Colorado will gain in national
stature from having two effective spokesmen from this state leading
their respective National Committees; and
WHEREAS, These positions are national party posts
that require competent leaders who are willing and able to work
in a bipartisan manner in order to overcome the challenges of
partisan gridlock; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives
of the Sixtyfirst General Assembly of the State of Colorado,
the Senate concurring herein:
That we, the members of the General Assembly, hereby
congratulate Jim Nicholson on being elected chairman of the Republican
National Committee and Governor Roy Romer on being elected general
chairman of the Democratic National Committee.
Be It Further Resolved,
That we, the members of the General Assembly, hereby encourage
Jim Nicholson and Governor Roy Romer to work together as part
of a bipartisan effort to resolve and address the important issues
they will be facing.
Be It Further Resolved,
That the members of the House of Representatives and the members
of the Senate offer their support to Jim Nicholson and Governor
Roy Romer in carrying out their duties.
Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Resolution be sent to
Jim Nicholson and Governor Roy Romer.
