HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 97-1012

WHEREAS, The Summit County Senior Citizens, Inc., a group comprised of Summit County residents who are 55 years and older, organizes and stages winter athletic games with the help of volunteers; and

WHEREAS, Active retirees initiated these winter athletic games as an incentive to keep physically and mentally fit and active; and

WHEREAS, These winter athletic games have attracted people from 12 states, including the countries of Canada and Europe, with the oldest competitor having been 92 years old; and

WHEREAS, These activities contribute to the well-being of senior citizens by allowing them the opportunity to share their healthy lifestyles together; and

WHEREAS, The annual Senior Winter Games at the Summit will be held this year in Breckenridge; and

WHEREAS, A number of events will take place, ranging from speed skating and figure skating, alpine ski racing, cross country ski racing, to a biathlon, snow shoe and relay races; and

WHEREAS, We should recognize these senior citizens for their achievements and continued ambition in improving themselves and developing their full potential; and

WHEREAS, It is fitting and appropriate for the citizens of Colorado to join together in commemorating the annual Senior Winter Games at the Summit; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Sixty­first General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the Senate concurring herein:

That we, the members of the General Assembly, hereby recognize and commend the efforts of the senior citizens of Summit County who organize, as well as the senior citizens who will participate in, the 17th annual Senior Winter Games at the Summit that will take place February 2, 1997, through February 4, 1997, at Breckenridge.

Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Resolution be sent to the Summit County Senior Citizens, Inc.
