HOUSE BILL 97­1010

CONCERNING DISCONTINUING THE TREATMENT OF INDIAN TRIBES AS POLITICAL SUBDIVISIONS FOR PURPOSES OF THE "COLORADO EMPLOYMENT SECURITY ACT" IN CONFORMITY WITH FEDERAL LAW.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Colorado:

SECTION 1.  8­70­103 (23), Colorado Revised Statutes, 1986 Repl. Vol., as amended, is amended to read:

8­70­103.  Definitions. As used in articles 70 to 82 of this title, unless the context otherwise requires:

(23)  "Political subdivision" means a county, municipality, school district, local junior college district, special district formed pursuant to title 32, C.R.S., cooperative agency formed pursuant to part 2 of article 1 of title 29, C.R.S., OR regional commission formed pursuant to section 30­28­105, C.R.S. or, for the purposes of articles 70 to 82 of this title, an Indian tribe organized pursuant to the federal "Indian Reorganization Act of 1934", as amended.

SECTION 2.  Effective date. This act shall take effect July 1, 1997.

SECTION  3.   Safety clause. The general assembly hereby finds, determines, and declares that this act is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, and safety.
