Restricts the provision of public benefits provided by the state or any political subdivision of the state to citizens of and aliens lawfully present in the United States. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Colorado: SECTION 1. Title 24, Colorado Revised Statutes, is amended BY THE ADDITION OF A NEW ARTICLE to read: ARTICLE 19.7 Restriction on Public Benefits 24-19.7-101. Restriction on public benefits. (1) Except as mandated by federal law or excluded pursuant to subsection (2) of this section, the provision of any retirement, welfare, health, disability, public or assisted housing, postsecondary education, food assistance, or unemployment benefit or any similar benefit for which payments or assistance are provided to an individual, household, or family eligibility unit by the state of Colorado, or any city, county, city and county, or other political subdivision thereof, is restricted to citizens of and aliens lawfully present in the United States. (2) The provisions of subsection (1) of this section shall not apply to prenatal care or to communicable disease prevention, treatment, or immunization. SECTION 2. Safety clause. The general assembly hereby finds, determines, and declares that this act is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, and safety.
