CONCERNING CONGRATULATING AND THANKING THE LEGISLATIVE STAFF FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING EFFORTS IN SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETING THE FIRST EXTRAORDINARY SESSION OF THE SIXTY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY. WHEREAS, On June 28, 2006, Governor Bill Owens issued a proclamation calling for the first extraordinary session of the Sixty-fifth General Assembly to consider several issues relating to illegal immigration, consideration by the Supreme Court of ballot initiative issues, and common law marriage; and WHEREAS, In the proclamation, the Governor directed the General Assembly to convene on July 6, 2006, at 10:00 a.m., seven days from the date the proclamation was issued; and WHEREAS, To ensure that the General Assembly was prepared to begin its work immediately upon convening on July 6, the legislative staff were required in seven days to complete work that normally requires several weeks to a month, including preparation of the computer system, drafting of bills and other measures, writing of fiscal notes, and preparation for the creation of calendars, journals, and committee reports; and WHEREAS, During the course of the First Extraordinary Session of the Sixty-fifth General Assembly, the legislative staff willingly came to work early and worked late into the evening to ensure that the legal and administrative duties necessary for the continuing progress of the legislative session were completed accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Sixty-fifth General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the Senate concurring herein: (1) That we, the members of the Sixty-fifth General Assembly commend and thank the employees of the House of Representatives, the Senate, the Legislative Information Services, the Legislative Council Staff, the Joint Budget Committee Staff, and the Office of Legislative Legal Services for their efforts and dedication in preparing for, facilitating, and helping to ensure the successful completion of the First Extraordinary Session of the Sixty-fifth General Assembly; and (2) That we further honor and thank our employees for their commitment to serving the people of the state of Colorado in their indispensable role as legislative staff. _________________________________________________________ Andrew Romanoff Joan Fitz-Gerald SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE PRESIDENT OF OF REPRESENTATIVES THE SENATE ___________________________ ____________________________ Marilyn Eddins Karen Goldman CHIEF CLERK OF THE HOUSE SECRETARY OF OF REPRESENTATIVES THE SENATE
