2015 SENATE RESOLUTION 15-004 BY SENATOR(S) Scheffel and Carroll, Aguilar, Balmer, Baumgardner, Cooke, Crowder, Donovan, Garcia, Grantham, Guzman, Heath, Hill, Hodge, Holbert, Jahn, Johnston, Jones, Kefalas, Kerr, Lambert, Lundberg, Marble, Martinez Humenik, Merrifield, Neville T., Newell, Roberts, Scott, Sonnenberg, Steadman, Todd, Ulibarri, Woods, Cadman. CONCERNING THE RETIREMENT OF THE SECRETARY OF THE SENATE, CINDI L. MARKWELL, AFTER SERVING THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY FOR 35 YEARS. WHEREAS, Cindi L. Markwell announced her retirement from her position as Secretary of the Senate after 35 years of valued service with the General Assembly; and WHEREAS, Cindi began her career serving the General Assembly in November of 1980 in an administrative position with the Legislative Drafting Office, which later became the Office of Legislative Legal Services; and WHEREAS, After several years of dedication and assistance to staff, legislators, and the legislative institution while working in the Legal Services front office, Cindi then successfully moved into a Legislative Assistant position within the office; and WHEREAS, After mastering the skills necessary to succeed in the Legislative Assistant position, Cindi then became a Head Legislative Assistant where she used her organizational and leadership skills to become an office leader in collaboration, communication, and efficiency; and WHEREAS, Her many accomplishments with the Office of Legislative Legal Services include creating and preparing training classes for new Legislative Assistants, assisting with office training presentations, developing a legislative educational program for her daughter's school, ably chairing several office committees, actively reaching out and mentoring others in the office, and championing the concepts of personal and office excellence; and WHEREAS, In November of 2008, after 28 outstanding years with the Office of Legislative Legal Services, Cindi chose to further challenge herself by taking on an entirely different role in her service to the General Assembly to become the Journal Clerk and Assistant Secretary of the Senate, and then, in 2011, Cindi became the Secretary of the Senate; and WHEREAS, As Secretary of the Senate, Cindi's many accomplishments include overseeing the restoration of the Senate Chamber, which started with the repair and relocation of the Nicholson and Moffat stained glass windows in 2013 and continued on to include removing the Senate's acoustic tiles and painting the chamber to match the Senate chamber colors and stenciling of the early 1900s; and WHEREAS, Cindi served on the Legislative Management Team, where she took an active role in discussions and decisions regarding the use and improvement of Capitol resources and participated in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of New Member Training programs; and WHEREAS, Cindi also served on the Capitol Building Advisory Committee where, in her roles as committee member and as vice-chair, she was active in discussions and decisions regarding the preservation and promotion of the historic and architectural integrity of our Capitol building, golden dome, and grounds; and WHEREAS, In her retirement, Cindi is excited to be able to spend more time with her family, especially her daughter Lauren (who will be getting married in Las Vegas this July!), her son Scott, and her grandson Mason, all who mean the world to her and are incredibly important in her life; and WHEREAS, In her time working for the General Assembly, Cindi has served with dedication and distinction, and her years of stellar service have been marked by exemplary and energetic leadership while maintaining an unwavering commitment to the General Assembly and the integrity of the legislative process; and WHEREAS, Cindi has provided outstanding professional services to, and developed personal relationships with, the members of the General Assembly in general, the members of the Senate in particular, and her colleagues and will be greatly missed; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Seventieth General Assembly of the State of Colorado: That we, the members of the Senate of the Colorado General Assembly, convey our highest regards and gratitude to Cindi L. Markwell upon her retirement from service as Secretary of the Senate in which capacity she has earned the state's respect and admiration, and we extend to her our heartfelt wishes for a happy and rewarding retirement. Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Resolution be sent to Cindi Markwell and to her son Scott Johnson of Long Island City, New York; her daughter Lauren Johnson of Northglenn; her mother Kim Dinardi of Colorado Springs; her father Richard Standfest of Montgomery, Texas; and her sister Stacy Giere of Colorado Springs. ____________________________ ____________________________ Bill L.
