MEMORIALIZING FORMER REPRESENTATIVE FRANA MACE. WHEREAS, Our respected former colleague Frana Araujo Mace, a past member of the Colorado House of Representatives, departed this life on March 26, 2015, at the age of 80; and WHEREAS, Representative Mace was born June 4, 1934, to Frank and Mary Araujo in Denver, Colorado; and WHEREAS, She married Gilbert Mace in 1953, and during their 53-year-long marriage they raised six children, 16 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly; and WHEREAS, Representative Mace was the mayoral appointee to the Denver Board of Adjustment and Zoning Appeals from 1976 through 1986; and WHEREAS, Representative Mace was appointed by the Governor to the Commission on Aging; and WHEREAS, Representative Mace served as the Democratic Party finance chair from District 4A; and WHEREAS, Representative Mace was appointed to the Colorado House of Representatives to represent House District 4 in 1995 and subsequently reelected in 1996, 1998, and 2000; and WHEREAS, During her seven years as a legislator in the House of Representatives, Representative Mace served on the Local Government, Transportation and Energy, and House Services committees; served as the minority whip from 1999 to 2002; and sponsored the bill that made Cesar Chavez Day a state holiday; and WHEREAS, Representative Mace sponsored a law to expedite custodial and kinship adoptions of children who have been abandoned by their birth parents; and WHEREAS, Representative Mace was a strong advocate for the elderly, sponsoring bills in 2000 and 2001 that: Appropriated $3 million to local area agencies on aging; expanded the Older Coloradans Program to provide pharmaceutical, dental, optometric, and audiological services; expanded in-home services; and added home repair and maintenance services to services eligible to persons 60 years of age or older; and WHEREAS, After her terms in the House of Representatives, Representative Mace went to work in the House as a Legislative Aide; and WHEREAS, Representative Mace was also an active humanitarian, spending many summers volunteering at Potenza Lodge for its annual August Feast of St. Rocco, serving as the President and Chair of the Northside Community Center, and assisting the Servicios de la Raza cooperative endeavor; and WHEREAS, She was named Hispanic Woman of the Year - Political Division in 1995; and WHEREAS, Representative Mace will always be remembered in the Colorado Capitol for her welcoming smile, love of people in her district, brilliant mind, and endless energy; now, therefore Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Seventieth General Assembly of the State of Colorado: That in the death of Representative Frana Mace, the people of the state of Colorado lost a dedicated public servant and outstanding citizen, and that we, the members of the Seventieth General Assembly, do hereby extend our deep and heartfelt sympathy to the members of her family and pay tribute to a woman who served her state well and faithfully. Be It Further Resolved, That copies of this Memorial be sent to her sister, Esther Blazon, and her children, Linda R. Foss, Dan Fladung, Mary E. Mace, Houghton R.
