R15-1105.01 Gwynne Middleton x4340 HJR15-1027 HOUSE SPONSORSHIP Buckner and Lee, SENATE SPONSORSHIP Hill, House Committees Senate Committees HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 15-1027 Concerning recognition of public school teachers in Colorado. WHEREAS, In Colorado and across the country, teachers open children's minds to new ideas, knowledge, and aspirations and can profoundly influence students long after their school days are over; and WHEREAS, Teachers keep our American democracy alive by laying the foundation for good citizenship; and WHEREAS, Teachers fill a variety of roles in students' lives, including role model, mentor, listener, and motivator, and teachers' hard work and efforts are directly responsible for creating the leaders of tomorrow; and WHEREAS, Teachers spend countless hours outside the classroom directing or supporting a myriad of extracurricular activities and programs that enrich a student's school experience and are often the key to unlocking a student's interest and potential; and WHEREAS, Despite recent education budget cuts, Colorado's teachers continue to demonstrate their commitment to providing a world-class education to their students; and WHEREAS, In 2014, more than 51,000 teachers served in Colorado public schools; and WHEREAS, One day each year is set aside to honor and acknowledge the lasting contributions that teachers have made to our lives; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Seventieth General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the Senate concurring herein: That we, the Colorado General Assembly, hereby: (1) Recognize and express our appreciation to Colorado school teachers for their work and dedication and encourage all Coloradans to continue to support those who educate our state's children and youth; and (2) In conjunction with National Teacher Day, designate May 5, 2015, as Colorado Teacher Day.
