2015 SENATE RESOLUTION 15-003 BY SENATOR(S) Lundberg and Crowder, Balmer, Baumgardner, Cooke, Grantham, Hill, Holbert, Lambert, Marble, Neville T., Roberts, Scheffel, Scott, Sonnenberg, Woods, Cadman. CONCERNING PREGNANCY RESOURCE CENTERS. WHEREAS, The life-affirming impact of pregnancy resource centers on the women, children, and men and communities they serve is considerable and growing; and WHEREAS, Pregnancy resource centers serve women in Colorado and across the United States with integrity and compassion; and WHEREAS, More than 2,500 pregnancy resource centers across the United States meet the comprehensive physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual needs of women and men facing unplanned pregnancies; and WHEREAS, Pregnancy resource centers offer women free, confidential services, including pregnancy testing, advocacy, housing, medical referrals, counseling, and childbirth and parenting classes; and WHEREAS, Many pregnancy resource centers offer medical services such as ultrasounds and sexually transmitted disease testing; and WHEREAS, Pregnancy resource centers encourage women to make positive life choices by equipping them with complete and accurate information regarding their pregnancy options and the development of their unborn children; and WHEREAS, Many pregnancy resource centers provide information on adoption and adoption referrals to pregnant women; and WHEREAS, Pregnancy resource centers ensure that women are receiving prenatal information and services that lead to the birth of healthy newborns; and WHEREAS, Pregnancy resource centers provide women with compassionate and confidential counseling in a nonjudgmental manner, regardless of their pregnancy outcomes; and WHEREAS, Pregnancy resource centers provide important support and resources for women who choose childbirth; and WHEREAS, The federal government and state governments are increasingly recognizing the valuable services of pregnancy resource centers; and WHEREAS, Many pregnancy resource centers work to prevent unexpected pregnancies by teaching effective abstinence education in many venues, including in public schools, and provide grief assistance for women and men who regret the loss of their children from past choices they have made; and WHEREAS, Pregnancy resource centers operate primarily through reliance on thousands of donors and the time and energy of caring individuals, including medical professionals, who are committed to caring for the needs of women and promoting and protecting life; and WHEREAS, Pregnancy resource centers provide full disclosure, in both their advertisements and direct contact with women, of the types of services they provide; and WHEREAS, There are at least 39 pregnancy resource centers currently in operation in Colorado; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Seventieth General Assembly of the State of Colorado: (1) That we, the members of the Senate, strongly support pregnancy resource centers in their unique, positive contributions to the individual lives of women and men and of babies -- both born and unborn; (2) That we commend the compassionate work of tens of thousands of volunteers and paid staff at pregnancy resource centers in Colorado and across the United States; (3) That we encourage Congress and federal and state government agencies to grant pregnancy resource centers assistance for medical equipment and abstinence education in a manner that does not compromise the religious integrity of these organizations; and (4) That we disapprove of the actions of any national, state, or local groups attempting to prevent pregnancy resource centers from effectively serving women and men facing unplanned pregnancies. Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to each pregnancy resource center in Colorado; Governor John Hickenlooper; President Barack Obama; Senator Orrin Hatch, President Pro Tempore, United States Senate; and Speaker John Boehner, United States House of Representatives. ____________________________ ____________________________ Bill L.
