CONCERNING RECOGNITION OF SCHOOL CHOICE WEEK IN COLORADO. WHEREAS, All children in Colorado should have the opportunity to attend the highest-quality schools available; and WHEREAS, Citizens across Colorado agree that improving the quality of education in this state and expanding access to great schools should be an issue of great importance to state leaders; and WHEREAS, Colorado has a multitude of high-quality public schools, public charter schools, home-based schools, and private schools; and WHEREAS, The vital need for education reform is one that transcends ideology and political party affiliation; and WHEREAS, Research in Colorado and across the nation conclusively demonstrates that providing children with multiple schooling options improves academic performance; and WHEREAS, Numerous organizations in Colorado work to improve the lives of students and advocate for a variety of educational opportunities for families, including charter schools, open enrollment in public schools, home-based schools, private schools, and on-line schools; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Sixty-ninth General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the House of Representatives concurring herein: That we recognize the importance of providing Colorado's families with access to quality education and the ability to choose the school that is best suited to their children's needs; and That we recognize the week of January 26 through February 1, 2014, to be School Choice Week in the state of Colorado.
