CONCERNING MODIFICATIONS TO THE RULES OF THE SENATE TO PERMIT THE USE OF WIRELESS ELECTRONIC DEVICES IN A MANNER THAT PROTECTS THE DELIBERATIONS OF THE SENATE FROM DISRUPTION. Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Sixty-ninth General Assembly of the State of Colorado: That in the Rules of the Senate, Rule No. 22A, amend (b) (1), (b) (2), and (b) (3) as follows: 22A. Protection of Deliberations (b) (1) Except as otherwise provided in subsection (b) (2) of this rule, all wireless electronic devices including, but not limited to telephone and such other communication devices used for transmitting and receiving voice or data communications, including but not limited to electronic mail and text messaging, shall be rendered inoperable mute or set on vibrate when operated or used in the Senate chambers, in the gallery of the Senate chambers, in the hearings of Senate committees, in Senate party caucuses, or in any other official meetings of Senate members held in the Capitol or the Legislative Services Building. (2) Laptop or notebook personal computers Senators, legislative staff, witnesses, and others recognized to speak may be used use wireless electronic devices to play audio or video recordings while speaking in the Senate chambers, in the hearings of Senate committees, in Senate party caucuses, or in any other official meetings of Senate members held in the Capitol or the Legislative Services Building. however, during the third reading of bills in the Senate chambers, laptop or notebook personal computers shall be rendered inoperable for the purpose of transmitting and receiving voice or data communications, including but not limited to electronic mail and text messaging. (3) Wireless telephones and audible pagers or similar electronic devices shall not be used for any audible communications in the Senate chambers or in the gallery of the Senate chambers. ____________________________ ____________________________ John P.
