CONCERNING RECOGNITION OF APRIL 2013 AS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH IN COLORADO. WHEREAS, Children are key to the state's future success, prosperity, and quality of life. While they are our most valuable resource, they are also the most vulnerable segment of our population; and WHEREAS, Children have a right to be safe and to have the opportunity to thrive, learn, and grow to their full potential; and WHEREAS, The abuse and neglect of children is preventable; and WHEREAS, The prevention of child abuse and neglect strengthens Colorado families and communities and supports the opportunity for children to develop healthy, trusting family bonds and thereby builds the foundations of communities; and WHEREAS, The state recently announced "Keeping Kids Safe and Families Healthy 2.0", which strengthens Colorado's vision for improving the safety and well-being of children and families across the state; and WHEREAS, Effective and efficient programs to strengthen families succeed when strong partnerships are created between and among state and local government and social service agencies, schools, religious and civic organizations, law enforcement agencies, health care providers, family resource centers, the business community, nonprofit organizations, and, most importantly, parents and caregivers themselves; and WHEREAS, When child abuse or neglect occurs, citizens must work to support community efforts to protect and heal children and youth and provide parents with needed skills and resources to raise their children in a safe and nurturing environment; and WHEREAS, By providing a safe environment, free of violence, abuse, and neglect, we can ensure that Colorado children have a safe, nurturing, and permanent family in which to grow and flourish as the next generation of leaders, helping to secure the future of this state and nation; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Sixty-ninth General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the House of Representatives concurring herein: (1) That we, the members of the Colorado General Assembly, recognize April 2013 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in the state of Colorado; (2) That we commend the citizens, the community, faith-based and nonprofit organizations, schools, businesses, and government agencies at all levels that have created alliances, collaborations, and coalitions to prevent and respond to child abuse and neglect, and have thereby strengthened the communities in the state; (3) That we call upon all citizens to educate themselves on how they can be the one person to make a difference in the life of a child and prevent child abuse and neglect.
