Currently, a motor vehicle rebuilt from salvage must comply with several requirements to qualify for a certificate of title, such as stamping on the vehicle's frame the phrase "REBUILT FROM SALVAGE" and obtaining a VIN inspection. The bill changes the definition of "salvage vehicle" to include vehicles that are over 6 years old and applies the requirements to those vehicles. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Colorado: SECTION 1. In Colorado Revised Statutes, 42-6-102, repeal (17) (c) as follows: 42-6-102. Definitions. As used in this part 1, unless the context otherwise requires: (17) (c) This subsection (17) shall not apply to a vehicle whose model year of manufacture is six years or older at the time of damage. SECTION 2. Effective date - applicability. This act takes effect July 1, 2012, and applies to acts committed on or after said date. SECTION 3. Safety clause. The general assembly hereby finds, determines, and declares that this act is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, and safety.
