SENATE BILL 11-204 BY SENATOR(S) Giron and Morse, King K., Lambert; also REPRESENTATIVE(S) Swerdfeger and Stephens, Barker, Gardner B., Lee, Duran, Hamner, Labuda, Massey, Nikkel, Pace, Ramirez, Summers, Todd, Vigil, Wilson. Concerning the role of certain southern Colorado university campuses. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Colorado: SECTION 1. 23-31.5-101, Colorado Revised Statutes, is amended to read: 23-31.5-101. University established - role and mission. There is hereby established a university at Pueblo, to be known as Colorado state university - Pueblo, which shall be a regional, comprehensive university, with moderately selective admissions standards. The university shall offer a broad array of baccalaureate programs with a strong professional focus and a firm grounding in the liberal arts and sciences. The university shall also offer selected master's-level a limited number of graduate programs. SECTION 2. 23-20-101 (1) (c), Colorado Revised Statutes, is amended to read: 23-20-101. University of Colorado - role and mission - all campuses. (1) The role and mission of the several campuses of the university of Colorado shall be as follows: (c) The Colorado Springs campus of the university of Colorado shall be a comprehensive baccalaureate and specialized graduate research university with selective admission standards. The Colorado Springs campus shall offer liberal arts and sciences, business, engineering, health sciences, and teacher preparation undergraduate degree programs, and a selected number of master's and doctoral degree programs. SECTION 3. Act subject to petition - effective date. This act shall take effect at 12:01 a.m. on the day following the expiration of the ninety-day period after final adjournment of the general assembly (August 10, 2011, if adjournment sine die is on May 11, 2011); except that, if a referendum petition is filed pursuant to section 1 (3) of article V of the state constitution against this act or an item, section, or part of this act within such period, then the act, item, section, or part shall not take effect unless approved by the people at the general election to be held in November 2012 and shall take effect on the date of the official declaration of the vote thereon by the governor. ____________________________ ____________________________ Brandon C.
