CONCERNING RECOGNITION OF MILITARY, VETERANS, AND MIA/POW APPRECIATION DAY. WHEREAS, Colorado has a proud and distinguished history of dedicated military service by men and women of this state whose courage, heroism, and sacrifice preserve the liberties and democratic way of life set forth in our state and federal constitutions; and WHEREAS, Colorado benefits significantly from the presence and military service of the more than 60,000 men and women in our state who serve in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard; the branch Reserves; the Colorado National Guard; and the Civil Air Patrol; and WHEREAS, In times of conflict around the globe, it is particularly appropriate to recognize the Coloradans in all branches and components of the Armed Services who serve around the world to protect the security and peace of our nation and other nations; and WHEREAS, In addition to active members of the Armed Services, Colorado is the proud home of more than 426,000 military veterans who have served their country long and well and who bring great honor and distinction to the state; and WHEREAS, Colorado is home not only to active duty service personnel and veterans but also to the countless family members of these men and women who display the same dedication, courage, and sacrifice; and WHEREAS, We should also never forget the sacrifices made for us by the 94 men declared missing in action or prisoners of war while defending the principles of liberty and justice in conflicts throughout Korea, Laos, and Vietnam; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Sixty-eighth General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the Senate concurring herein: (1) That we, the members of the Sixty-eighth General Assembly, hereby extend our heartfelt gratitude to our state's veterans, past and present, to all military men and women currently serving in the Armed Services, and to the family members of active duty personnel and veterans, and that we remember and honor those prisoners of war and those missing in action from previous conflicts; and (2) That we encourage the citizens of Colorado to join in the celebration of Colorado's Military, Veterans, and MIA/POW Appreciation Day on January 24, 2011, in recognition and honor of the thousands of fellow citizens in the military who protect and serve their communities, state, and country.
