R11-0929.01 Patty Amundson SJR11-036 SENATE SPONSORSHIP Tochtrop, HOUSE SPONSORSHIP Soper, Senate Committees House Committees SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 11-036 Concerning the Colorado legislative sportsmen's caucus. WHEREAS, Based on the most recent information available, hunting, fishing, and related outdoor activities are a tremendous boon to Colorado's economy, as an estimated $1.8 billion is spent on hunting and fishing activities in this state each year, an estimated $1.2 billion is spent on wildlife-watching activities in this state each year, and thousands of jobs in this state are supported by such activities; and WHEREAS, Hunting and fishing, in addition to being essential components of Colorado's rich heritage, enjoy widespread popularity in this state, as approximately 7% of Coloradans possess hunting licenses and approximately 25% of Coloradans possess fishing licenses; and WHEREAS, Wildlife activities are second only to skiing in terms of economic benefit to Colorado's tourism economy; and WHEREAS, Along with the money generated by their activities, sportsmen provide direct assistance in maintaining sound wildlife management and environmental conservation practices by assisting wildlife managers and enforcement officers at all levels of government, by providing incentives for the conservation of wildlife and the habitats and ecosystems on which wildlife depends, and by performing the essential function of helping to maintain healthy and sustainable wildlife numbers; and WHEREAS, The stated mission of the Colorado Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus, a nonpartisan caucus formed in 2002 by the Sixty-third General Assembly, is to: Preserve and promote the traditional rights of American citizens to hunt, fish, and pursue outdoor activities; Ensure that America's sportsmen have reasonable access to public lands to enjoy outdoor pursuits; Protect the investment of sportsmen in wildlife and fisheries management by safeguarding the integrity of user-fee trust funds; Support efforts to enhance multiple-use habitat management for wildlife and fisheries; Recognize the importance of hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities to our nation's economy and support the maintenance and growth of outdoor-related industries and activities; and Work as a collaborative partner with the agricultural community in providing and protecting wildlife habitat; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Sixty-eighth General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the House of Representatives concurring herein: (1) That the General Assembly urges its members to join the Colorado Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus and, therefore, any member who sponsors this Joint Resolution is declared to be a member of the Colorado Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus; and (2) That the General Assembly urges Colorado's institutions, both public and private, to work with the Colorado Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus as it strives to assist sportsmen to uphold their critical role in maintaining an economically vibrant and environmentally healthy Colorado.
