MEMORIALIZING FORMER REPRESENTATIVE EUNICE WHARTON FINE. WHEREAS, By the Will of Divine Providence, our beloved former member, Eunice Wharton Fine, departed this life on September 26, 2010, just days before her 87th birthday; and WHEREAS, Eunice Wharton was born in Berthoud, Colorado, on September 28, 1923, to Clarence and Iona Needs Wharton and attended rural schools where her father was the principal and teacher; and WHEREAS, Representative Fine moved to Greeley to attend Greeley High School and later graduated from David Lipscomb College, now Lipscomb University, in Nashville, Tennessee; and WHEREAS, In 1944, Representative Fine married her high school sweetheart, Don Fine, in Greeley, and the couple had three children together; and WHEREAS, While her children were in school, Representative Fine stayed home to care for her family and was also a biblical scholar who for many years taught the college and young adult Sunday school classes at First Christian Church in Greeley, Colorado; and WHEREAS, Representative Fine was active in various groups and organizations, including PTAs, Weld County Republican Women, Meals on Wheels, Girl Scouts, and the Weld County Library Board; and WHEREAS, Representative Fine served three terms in the Colorado House of Representatives, where she represented House District 50 from 1979 through 1984; and WHEREAS, During her years at the capitol, Representative Fine served on the Business Affairs and Labor, Education, and Game, Fish, and Parks committees, as well as on various interim committees; and WHEREAS, Representative Fine had many hobbies, including reading, knitting, sewing, traveling with her husband, and attending all of her grandchildren's recitals, sport competitions, and school activities; and WHEREAS, Representative Fine was a wonderful cook whose home was always filled with family and guests; and WHEREAS, Representative Fine is remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was articulate, charming, smart, and witty and who had an enthusiasm for life; and WHEREAS, It is fitting that we, the members of the House of Representatives of the Sixty-eighth General Assembly, pay tribute to the dedicated service of Representative Eunice Wharton Fine and express our deep regret and sorrow occasioned by her death; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Sixty-eighth General Assembly of the State of Colorado: That, in the death of Eunice Wharton Fine, the people of the state of Colorado have lost a dedicated public servant and outstanding citizen, and that we, the members of the House of Representatives of the Sixty-eighth General Assembly, do hereby extend our deep and heartfelt sympathy to the members of her family and pay tribute to a woman who served her state well and faithfully.
