CONCERNING RECOGNITION OF THE MONTH OF APRIL AS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH. WHEREAS, Children are key to Colorado's future success and prosperity, and, while children are our most valuable resource, they are also our most vulnerable; and WHEREAS, Children deserve to have a safe and healthy childhood, to live in a loving and nurturing environment, to be secure and well cared for in their homes, schools, and communities, and to receive timely and effective services provided by the child protection systems; and WHEREAS, Child abuse is a serious problem with far-reaching effects, depriving children of the chance for a normal childhood and the opportunity to develop healthy, trusting family bonds; and WHEREAS, Without intervention and treatment, each victim of child abuse may carry the scars of the trauma for life; and WHEREAS, Preventing child abuse depends upon the awareness, involvement, and cooperation of all people and organizations within the state of Colorado; and WHEREAS, Effective child abuse prevention programs succeed when partnerships are created between and among local government and social service agencies, schools, religious and civic organizations, law enforcement agencies, health care providers, the media, the business community, and, most importantly, parents themselves; and WHEREAS, All citizens must work to prevent child abuse by becoming aware of its devastating, pervasive, and on-going consequences, by working to protect children, and by giving parents the skills and support they need to raise their children in a safe and nurturing environment; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Sixty-eighth General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the Senate concurring herein: (1) That we, the members of the Colorado General Assembly, proclaim April 2011 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in the state of Colorado; (2) That we encourage every person to perform a positive act each day on behalf of children; and (3) That we call upon all citizens, community and faith-based organizations, businesses, and government agencies to create alliances and increase their efforts to prevent child abuse, thereby strengthening the communities of this state. _________________________________________________________ Frank McNulty Brandon C.
