Bill Summary (Note: This summary applies to this bill as introduced and does not necessarily reflect any amendments that may be subsequently adopted.) Requires the commissioner of agriculture and the division of wildlife to give a higher priority in their administration of the state's predator-control laws to the protection of human safety from coyotes in wild land-urban interface areas and in habitat corridors within developed areas. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Colorado: SECTION 1. 35-40-101 (7), Colorado Revised Statutes, is amended to read: 35-40-101. Powers and duties of the commissioner - rules - agreements - repeal. (7) (a) The commissioner is authorized to enter into agreements with the division of wildlife in the department of natural resources for assistance in carrying out the provisions of this part 1, which assistance may include resources, including financial assistance, at the discretion of the wildlife commission. (b) (I) On and after the effective date of this paragraph (b), the commissioner and the division of wildlife shall give a higher priority to the protection of human safety from coyotes in wild land-urban interface areas and in habitat corridors within developed areas. The commissioner and the division shall cooperate with local governments' animal control efforts. (II) During the 2010 departmental presentation to legislative committees of reference pursuant to section 2-7-201, C.R.S., the commissioner and the executive director of the department of natural resources shall report to the legislative committees of reference concerning their implementation of this paragraph (b). This subparagraph (II) is repealed, effective July 1, 2010. SECTION 2. Safety clause. The general assembly hereby finds, determines, and declares that this act is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, and safety.
