Bill Summary (Note: This summary applies to this bill as introduced and does not necessarily reflect any amendments that may be subsequently adopted.) Health Care Task Force. Adds adult dental services to optional services provided under the "Colorado Medical Assistance Act". Allows the medical services board to adopt rules specifying the particular dental services that will be provided. Adds dental services to prenatal and postpartum care for pregnant women under the "Children's Basic Health Plan Act". Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Colorado: SECTION 1. 25.5-5-202 (1), Colorado Revised Statutes, is amended BY THE ADDITION OF A NEW PARAGRAPH to read: 25.5-5-202. Basic services for the categorically needy - optional services - repeal. (1) Subject to the provisions of subsection (2) of this section, the following are services for which federal financial participation is available and which Colorado has selected to provide as optional services under the medical assistance program: (u) Dental services. SECTION 2. Part 3 of article 5 of title 25.5, Colorado Revised Statutes, is amended BY THE ADDITION OF A NEW SECTION to read: 25.5-5-322. Dental services. The medical services program in this state shall include the provision of certain dental services for prevention and wellness. Dental services shall be provided in accordance with rules adopted by the state board. SECTION 3. 25.5-8-107 (1) (a), Colorado Revised Statutes, is amended BY THE ADDITION OF A NEW SUBPARAGRAPH to read: 25.5-8-107. Duties of the department - schedule of services - premiums - copayments - subsidies. (1) In addition to any other duties pursuant to this article, the department shall have the following duties: (a) (IV) In addition to the items specified in subparagraphs (I) to (III) of this paragraph (a) and any additional items approved by the state board, the state board shall include prenatal and postpartum dental services for pregnant women in its schedule of health care services. SECTION 4. Effective date. This act shall take effect July 1, 2009. SECTION 5. Safety clause. The general assembly hereby finds, determines, and declares that this act is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, and safety.
