03:08 PM -- House Bill 05-1098

Representative White, prime sponsor, introduced House Bill 05-1098 which increases the number of legislative members on the board of directors of the Colorado tourism office, and establishes a bipartisan appointment procedure.
He responded to committee questions. Representative White explained that he had no witnesses.

03:10 PM

Representative Gallegos asked Representative White why the tourism board isn't working in a partisan way, and how adding members would assure the board would work in a partisan way. Representative White indicated that his intent for this bill is to get more members to buy into championing the tourism industry. He doesn't know if the board is being partisan. He believes it is acting in a bi-partisan manner and wants more members, from both sides of the aisle, to be invested in the tourism industry. Committee discussion continued.

03:16 PM

Representative Todd asked Representative White what the historical makeup of the tourism office had been and why this issue is surfacing now. Representative White indicated that he has been a member of this board and he believes he is the expert on tourism within the general assembly. Members asked questions about the makeup and appointment of members to this board.
