Representative McFadyen led the discussion regarding the committee's preferences for facilities to tour this summer. She asked members to provide dates that they are unavailable as well as their preferences for sites. Staff provided a list of sites by region (Attachment A) as well as a calendar (Attachment B) with other relevant scheduled events throughout the interim.

Senator Entz joined the committee to invite them to ride the Cumbres & Toltec Railroad on September 30. Some members expressed that they have other obligations on that date but some may attend on their own.

The committee decided to do a Denver metro area trip on June 1 and 2. In that region they chose to visit the Denver Reception and Diagnostic Center (Department of Corrections; the Denver Women's Facility (Department of Corrections); Auraria Higher Education Center (Higher Education); Lowry Higher Education Center (Higher Education); the Judicial Heritage Complex (Judicial Department); and Colorado Mental Health Institute at Fort Logan (Department of Human Services). The committee will establish another date to visit the University of Colorado at Denver Health Sciences Center at Fitzsimons (Higher Education).

The committee then planned a northeast and north central region tour on June 28, 29, and 30. In that region they chose to visit the Sterling Correctional Facility (Department of Corrections); Northeastern Junior College (Higher Education); Morgan Community College (Higher Education); University of Northern Colorado (Higher Education); Colorado State University (Higher Education); and the Fort Collins State Patrol Troop Office (Department of Public Safety). The committee will visit the University of Colorado at Boulder campus on September 20.

Senator McElhany suggested a southern Colorado tour to coordinate with the State Fair on August 24, 25, and 26. Before scheduling that date, staff will find out when the legislative barbecue is scheduled. In that region the committee will visit various sites in Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Canon City, La Junta, and Ordway.

The committee plans to visit the San Luis Valley and the Western Slope on July 18, 19, 20, and 21. In that region the committee will visit various sites in Alamosa, Durango, Grand Junction, Rifle, and Montrose.
