Representative Coram, prime sponsor, presented House Bill 12-1026 concerning peace officer status for certain municipal prosecuting attorneys. He distributed prepared amendments L.001 and L.003 (Attachments I and J) and explained both. The bill confers peace officer status on municipal prosecuting attorneys and allows them to become certified by the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Board.

02:51 PM -- Bennet Morris, representing the City of Montrose, testified in support of the bill. Mr. Morris is the chief prosecuting attorney for the City of Montrose. He discussed the drafting process of the bill. He distributed a letter of support from the POST Board (Attachment K). Mr. Morris explained the reasons municipal prosecutors feel they need peace officer status.
